1820 error at POST when using external fingerprint reader - ThinkPad T60, T60p, X60, X60s, Z60m, Z60t, Z61e, Z61m, Z61t

Symptom

Users may receive an 1820 POST error on systems with an internal fingerprint reader and wireless WAN card when connecting an external fingerprint reader to a USB port on the left side of the system. The full text of the error is "More than one external fingerprint reader is attached. Power off and remove all but the reader that you set up within your main operating system."

Affected configurations

Any ThinkPad T60, T60p, X60, X60s, Z60m, Z60t, Z61e, Z61m, Z61t system.

Solution

Connect the external fingerprint reader to a USB port on the right side of the system, or to a port on a docking solution. This error is specific to the USB ports on the left side of the system. A BIOS update will be released to resolve the issue.
