An error message pops up when the user is trying to get new updates using ThinkVantage System Update in Windows Vista SP2 environment

Symptom

For a computer installed with the Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) operating system, when the user tries to use the ThinkVantage System Update program to get new updates, a window displays, saying "Your copy of System Update needs to be updated. Click OK to begin updating System Update." A little while after you click OK, an error message is displayed, saying "An error occurred while gathering user information."

This is because the current ThinkVantage System Update program does not support Windows Vista SP2.

All ThinkPad systems
All Lenovo 3000 Notebook systems

You can download the ThinkVantage System Update Patch for Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 2 to fix this issue.
