Software does not report changes in signal strength for the Intel wireless Ethernet adapter on systems running Windows Vista - ThinkPad
Symptom
On systems that have the Intel wireless Ethernet adapter that are running Microsoft Windows Vista, the wireless signal strength always appears to be the same, even though the actual wireless signal level may vary. This is regardless of what application is used to check the signal strength or the proximity of the system to an access point.

Affected configurations
The following ThinkPad systems running Microsoft Windows Vista with the Intel Wireless Ethernet card, may be affected by this symptom:
  • ThinkPad G50
  • ThinkPad R50, R50e, R50p, R51, R51e, R52, R60, R60e
  • ThinkPad T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p, T60, T60p
  • ThinkPad X31, X32, X40, X41, X41 Tablet, X60, X60s, X60 Tablet
  • ThinkPad Z60m, Z60t, Z61m, Z61e, Z61p, Z61t

Solution
Lenovo is investigating this issue.

Additional information
Although the wireless signal level may vary, the level displayed is always the same. This has no impact on the actual wireless performance.
