Windows Blue screen with ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery 4.21 (RnR) via USB HDD - ThinkCentre, ThinkStation
Symptom

Customer may see the following Windows Blue Screen Stop Error when they boot from a USB HDD Recovery image:

0x0000007B (0xF78D6528,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)

Affected configurations

The above symptom is associated with, but not limited to, the following systems configured with ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery 4.21:

  • All ThinkCentre systems
  • All ThinkStation systems

Applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Additional information:

Create a Rescue and Recovery 4.21 backup to a USB HDD.

Solution

Update RnR on the system with the following patch:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-75193

To fix an existing XP USB HDD that has been created with RnR 4.21, replace the files with same name in the USB drive (older \MiniNT\system32) with the files in the archive that can be downloaded from here.
