This utility will examine your system configuration and detect all Multi-Recorder drives installed. It will then check the firmware revision of the drive and judge whether your system requires a firmware update or not. If required, it will prompt you to run the appropriate firmware update program for your drive.
This package provides firmware for the following Multi-Recorder drives: - KME/PCC, UJ-812B
This firmware package is supported on the following ThinkPad systems: - ThinkPad R50, R50p, R51 - ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p
This utility is a bootable diskette program, so you need to prepare a floppy disk drive (FDD) for your ThinkPad. Please consult documentation accompanied with your ThinkPad system. If you encounter a problem attaching a FDD to your ThinkPad, please call your local Help Center.
The update utility may not find a Multi-Recorder drive in a Docking Station. Remove the drive and install it in a device bay of your ThinkPad and boot this diskette. If you encounter a problem installing the Multi-Recorder drive in the ThinkPad, call your local Support Center.
The diskette contains several executable files other than FW.EXE. DO NOT RUN THESE PROGRAMS. Running these programs other than FW.EXE could ruin your Multi-Recorder drive.
In Windows XP, after updating the firmware, boot the machine and shut it down again. This is necessary for the registry changes to be recognized.
Attention: Do not power off the ThinkPad during while the firmware is being updated. Doing so could cause the Multi-Recorder drive to fail.
Place a blank, formatted floppy diskette in the A: drive.
Close all open applications
Click the file link above to download the file from the Web page.
When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file.
Run the Fwdm0101.exe file you downloaded to create the bootable diskette.
Follow the instructions on the screen to create the diskette.
When the diskette has been created, place the diskette in the ThinkPad system that has the Multi-Recorder drive to be updated.
Boot the system from the diskette.
Drives that have been detected will be listed in the upper area of the Main Menu. If a drive that requires an update is detected, it will be shown with a blinking mark on the left. If you find no blinking marks, your Multi-Recorder drive has latest firmware and it is not necessry to update. Remove this diskette and shutdown your ThinkPad.
Follow the instructions on the screen to update the necessary Multi-Recorder drives.
When the installation is complete, remove the Firmware Update Utility diskette from the floppy disk drive and power off your ThinkPad system. Do not restart the ThinkPad system with the ctrl-alt-del keys.
