Note: The LCD for notebook computers contains many thin-film transistors (TFTs). The presence of a small number of dots that are missing, discolored, or always lit are characteristics of TFT LCD technology, but excessive pixel problems can cause viewing concerns. Click here for information on when the LCD should be replaced for excessive pixel issues.

Symptom or Error

FRU or Action, in sequence

  • No beep, power-on, indicator on, and a blank LCD during POST

  • LCD backlight not working
  • LCD too dark
  • LCD brightness cannot be adjusted
  • LCD contrast cannot be adjusted
  1. Lid switch on the keyboard bezel
  2. Reseat the LCD connectors

  • LCD screen unreadable
  • Characters missing pixels
  • Screen abnormal
  • Wrong color displayed

  • LCD screen stays on even after you turn off your computer
  1. Press and hold the power switch for 4 seconds or longer to turn off your computer
  2. Then turn it on again
