Symptom
Difficulty is experienced restoring a Rescue and Recovery backup using an external device when using SafeGuard Easy encryption.
SafeGuard Easy provides a secure environment, which prevents unauthorized users from gaining access to your backup data. However, if the steps below are not completed successfully, you might encounter problems attempting to restore to a new or blank drive.
Affected configurations
Any system running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP configured with Rescue and Recovery and SafeGuard Easy
Solution
Complete the following procedure to restore from a Rescue and Recovery backup, which resides on external media when booting from external media:
Perform these steps from Windows before the restore process is necessary
Create "Recovery Media" from Rescue and Recovery after SafeGuard Easy has been installed. This is necessary to ensure backup data can be read. To do this:
Click Start, select All Programs, select ThinkVantage, then click Create Recovery Media.
Follow the prompts.
Create a kernel backup of SafeGuard Easy and save it to a bootable diskette or CD.
Perform these steps to restore computer
Boot the computer using the bootable diskette or CD made from previous process, and follow the prompts to restore the SafeGuard Easy kernel.
Remove the bootable diskette or CD and reboot the computer.
After providing the necessary information in SafeGuard Easy boot authentication, insert the Rescue and Recovery "Recovery Media" and press F7.
Restore the computer's data using Rescue and Recovery.
