ThinkCentre M72e and Edge 72 systems may hang when user turns the system off.

When pressing the power button or issuing a software shutdown such as through the operating system, the system does not complete a proper shutdown.  Instead of powering off, the system fan may continue to run and the screen may show the last image on the display.

Affected configurations

The above symptom is associated with, but not limited to, the following systems:

  • ThinkCentre M72e
  • ThinkCentre Edge 72

Applies To:

  • All Operating Systems

This issue is resolved by updating to a newer boot block image which is included in the system BIOS package.  The user should update the system to BIOS version F1Jx21USA (or later) by performing the following methods below.

Flash under DOS:

  1. Expand F1JT21USA.
  2. Use Notepad to open autoexec.bat.  Update "flash2 imagef1.cap" to "flash2 imagef1.cap /bb".
  3. Boot to DOS.  Run autoexec.bat to flash the BIOS.

Flash under Microsoft Windows:

  1. Expand F1JY21USA.
  2. Use Notepad to open flash.cmd.  Update "wflash2.exe imagef1.cap %1" to "wflash2.exe imagef1.cap /bb %1".
  3. Run as Admin access right to open a DOS command window and then run flash.cmd in this window.
