No sound when playing audio file with Windows Media Player 11 - Notebooks
Symptom
When you use Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 to play certain kinds of AVI files, you only can see video. You cannot hear any sound.

Affected configurations
Any notebook system running Windows Vista.

Solution
If you get a codec error when playing an audio file, you can click the Web Help button in the error message window, download the "DSP Group TrueSpeech" plug-in. Click Download plug-ins from the "Now Playing" menu.

Additional information
This is a limitation of Windows Vista. The "DSP Group TrueSpeech" Codec for audio files is removed from Windows Vista by design.
