After using the recovery to restore a R61 or T61 to the Linux preload, you may see one of the following errors:

• GRUB Loading stage1.5.
• GRUB loading, please wait...
• Error 17
• Server Authorization directory (daemon/ServAuthDir) is set to /var/lib/gdm but is not owned by user gdm and group gdm. Please correct the ownership or GDM configuration and restart GDM.

Any of the following ThinkPad Systems running Linux may be affected by this symptom:

• ThinkPad R61
• ThinkPad T61

These errors can occur if you power the system off at the wrong time during the recovery. If you want to power off after the DVD portion of the recovery has completed, you should eject the DVD and shut the machine off when the recovery displays the message "Please remove the DVD and press a key to reboot."
