Post Error "0197: Unauthorized CMOS change detected" - ThinkCentre M58, M58p
Symptom

After the system resumes from Sleep mode and the CMOS image was restored using Srwin5C.exe, the user may see the following error message during post:

"0197:System security - Unauthorized CMOS change detected."

Affected configurations

Any of the following systems running Microsoft Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista:

  • ThinkCentre M58 (type 6302, 6239, 6258, 6303, 7174, 7244, 7354, 7355, 7360, 7373, 7627, 7628, 7638, 7639, 8910, 9960)
  • ThinkCentre M58p (type 6137, 6138, 6209, 6234, 7188, 7220, 7346, 7347, 7357, 7358, 7483, 7484, 7630, 7635, 9964, 9965)

Note: The systems CMOS image has been restored using the SRWIN5C.EXE utility and the BIOS version is 5CKT42 or older.

Solution

Update the system BIOS to version 5CKT44A or newer.
