Symptom

When setting a Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) on a desktop system, the value that appears in the Setup screen appears to be different. The UUID may also be reported in the standard UUID format by Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) or applications, and differ from what is on the box label and BIOS setup screen.

Affected configurations

The above symptom is associated with, but not limited to, the following systems:

  • ThinkStation E20
  • ThinkCentre M58, M58p, A63, A70z, M90, M90p
Limitation

The UUID formatting on the Setup screen is correct and follows the formatting described in the SMBIOS Specification 2.6, section 3.3.2.1:

(All future systems will follow this format)
