Network connection problems during Windows deployment - ThinkCentre M58, M58p, M90, M90p, M90z
The computer system may encounter network connectivity problems when installing any version of Windows operating system using a remote deployment method such as Remote Installation Services (RIS) or Windows Deployment Services (WDS). The network connection is unavailable during the setup phase (WinPE or other environment), and it prevents the system from connecting to a remote network shared folder to access additional software or driver installation files.
The above symptom is associated with, but not limited to, the following systems:
ThinkCentre M58, M58p, M90, M90p, M90z
Microsoft Windows 7
Microsoft Windows Vista
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
Microsoft Windows PE
Follow the steps below to resolve this issue:
Obtain and properly install the correct Chipset driver. Lenovo has found that network connectivity issues during deployment can occur when installing the Chipset driver using an unsupported method. This generally happens when the driver installation instructions specify the use of setup.exe, but an .inf detection method is used instead. Utilizing an incorrect chipset driver installation method can prevent certain devices on the PCI bus (such as Ethernet) from initializing until after a system reboot. Obtain the latest supported Chipset driver for the target machine type and operating system from Lenovo's support website, then refer to the detailed readme or help file included in the driver package for proper deployment instructions.
Obtain and properly install the correct Ethernet driver. Lenovo performs extensive qualification testing on Ethernet drivers and releases the most recent qualified version to the support website. Newer driver releases are sometimes available from other sources on the Internet, but it is recommended to use the latest driver available from Lenovo's support website. Refer to the driver package readme or help file for detailed deployment instructions.
Remove all unnecessary drivers from the deployment image. A deployment image may contain many different device drivers for various computer systems, relying on Windows Plug and Play to install only the necessary drivers onto each target system. The presence of unnecessary drivers in the deployment image could cause an unintended conflict during Windows setup. Remove all unnecessary drivers from the deployment image and include only the drivers that should be installed onto the target system.
