POST 0162 Error when flashing to a previous level BIOS - ThinkCentre

After downgrading the BIOS on the system, the user will notice a POST 0162 Error message during reboot.

The POST Error is displayed when the user downgrades the BIOS from a level equal to or above the version listed in the following table to a level below it.

EXAMPLE:  The system is shipped with BIOS 9SKT58A.  The user downgrades the BIOS to 9SKT41A.  Upon reboot, the system will display a POST 0162 Error.

Affected configurations

The above symptom is associated with, but not limited to, the following systems:

  • ThinkCentre M62z, Edge 62z, M72e, M72z, Edge 72z, M78, M82, M92, M92p, Edge 92, Edge 92z

Applies to:

  • All Operating Systems

Additional Information:

  • This is an expected behavior for these BIOS levels.

    Follow the steps below to clear the POST 0162 Error:

    1. Enter BIOS Setup by pressing F1 during POST.  All BIOS settings have been reset to their default values.
    2. Make any changes if necessary.
    3. Press F10 to save the settings.
    4. The POST 0162 Error will be cleared.
