This package installs the software support for ThinkVantage Active Protection System.

• *1: Note for ThinkPad X40 systems require the following BIOS and Embedded Controller versions to enable ThinkVantage Active Protection System:
  • BIOS version 1.13 (1UET62WW) or higher
  • Embedded Controller Program version 1.12 (1UHT58WW) or higher.
  • Update BIOS and Embedded Controller Program if necessary.
  • For more detail, refer to release notes of BIOS and Embedded Controller Program.
• *2 For ThinkPad W700 - RAID mode configuration
  • To enable ThinkVantage Active Protection System in RAID configuration, The following software are required:
    • BIOS Version 1.51 or higher
    • Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver Version 8.6.0.1007 or higher
  • Update BIOS and Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver prior to install ThinkVantage Active Protection System if necessary.
  • For more detail for each software identification and updating, refer to release notes of BIOS and Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver.
• *3 Note for Microsoft Windows 2000 If you are using the Windows 2000 operating system, install Active Protection System 1.77.0.5 instead.
• *4 for Note for Zhaoyang K29, K49. If you are using the Zhaoyang K29, K49, install Active Protection System 1.77.0.5 instead.

Notes:

• If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the software. To determine if you should update the software, refer to the Version Information section.
• If you have ThinkVantage Productivity Center installed on your system, update your Productivity Center to version 2.00 (or later) prior to install ThinkVantage Active Protection System.

This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.

[Downloading file]

1. Click once on the underlined file name. Once this is done, some pop-up windows will appear.
2. Follow the instructions on the screen.
3. In the window to choose Run or Save, click the Save button.
4. Choose the directory you would like to download the file to and click the Save button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully.

[Extracting file]

5. Make sure to be logged on with administrative account.
6. Locate the directory where the file was downloaded.
7. Locate the file that was downloaded and double-click it.
8. Follow the instructions on the screen.
9. In the "Select Destination Location" window, click Next. If you would like to select a different folder, click Browse.
10. In the "Ready to Install" window, click Install. The file will begin to extract all the necessary files to the folder specified in the step 9.

[Installing files]

11. Make sure the checkbox next to "Install ..... now" is selected and click Finish.
12. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete installation and restart the computer.

Finally delete the file saved in the step 4.

Note: This is for system administrators' use only.

1. Refer to the "Manual Install" section, and download and extract the files.
2. In the step 11 of the "Installing files" section, uncheck the checkbox next to "Install ..... now", and then click Finish to cancel installation.
3. At the command line, execute setup.exe with the following options. -s -v"/qn REBOOT=ReallySuppress"
   Example:
   [Path where the files were extracted]\setup -s -v"/qn REBOOT=ReallySuppress"

[Windows 8, 7]

1. Start Windows and logon with administrative account.
2. Windows key + X(Windows 8) ,Click Start(Windows 7), then click Control Panel.
3. Make sure View by Category is selected, click Uninstall a program.
4. Select ThinkVantage Active Protection System, and click Uninstall or Uninstall/Change.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete uninstallation and restart the computer.

[Windows Vista]

1. Start Windows and logon with administrative account.
2. Click Start, click Control Panel.
3. Make sure Control Panel Home is selected, click Uninstall a program.
4. Select ThinkVantage Active Protection System, and click Uninstall or Uninstall/Change.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete uninstallation and restart the computer.

[Windows XP]

1. Start Windows and logon with administrative account.
2. Click Start, click Control Panel.
3. Select Add/Remove Programs.
4. Select ThinkVantage Active Protection System and click Remove or Change/Remove.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete uninstallation and restart the computer.

[Windows 8, 7]

1. (Windows 8)Windows key + X ,and click Control Panel. (Windows 7)Click Start, then click Control Panel. For the Classic Start menu, click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Lenovo's Airbag Protection icon.
3. Click the About tab on ThinkVantage Active Protection System Properties.
4. Version information is shown in the Software Version: section.

[Windows Vista/XP]

1. Click Start, then click Control Panel. For the Classic Start menu, click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the ThinkVantage Active Protection icon.
3. Click the About tab on ThinkVantage Active Protection System Properties.
