ThinkVantage System Update 3.16 for Windows Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP, 2000
System Update downloads data updates for software, drivers and BIOS from a Lenovo server directly over the Internet without requiring specific user knowledge of where the package is located or if it is needed by the target system.

Ability to modify and create custom update packages compatible with System Update, using Package Builder.
Ability to create and manage a local repository, using Update Retriever.
Ability to import custom packages and to retrieve updates from the Lenovo support site, using Update Retriever.
Ability to customize System Update using ADM files and registry settings Administrator tools for System Update are available for on the Administrator Tools page.

Software requirements
The following operating systems are supported:
Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or higher
Microsoft Windows XP (32-bit) with Service Pack 1, 2 and 3
Microsoft Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit) Service Pack 1
Microsoft Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit) Service Pack 2
Currently the following operating systems are NOT supported:
Microsoft Windows 7 Beta
Note:
Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 with Service Pack 1 or Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 is required for System Update to work correctly. Use Microsoft Windows Update to ensure that Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 or 2.0 is installed on your system.
For Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit) Service Pack 2, it is required to install the ThinkVantage System Update patch before running System Update. For more information click on the link below:
Microsoft .NET Framework version 3.5 with Service pack 1 or above is required for System Update to work Correctly. Use Microsoft Windows Update to ensure that Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 or above is installed on your system.
Downloading the package
Click the file links to download the files from the Web page.
When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded files.
Installing the package
Uninstall any previous versions of ThinkVantage System Update or IBM Update Connector that are installed on your system. After you have uninstalled any previous versions do one of the following:
Under Windows Vista
Click Start, then click Start Search.
Type systemupdate316-2013-4-15.exe in the search field, then click Search Everywhere. This will locate the file you just downloaded.
Double-click the systemupdate316-2013-4-15.exe icon. You may see a dialog stating "A program needs your permission to continue". If you see this dialog, click Continue.
Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
ThinkVantage System Update will start automatically after installation is complete.
Under Windows XP or 2000
Click Start, select Find or Search, then click All Files and folders.
Type systemupdate316-2013-4-15.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This will locate the file you just downloaded.
Double-click the systemupdate316-2013-4-15.exe icon.
Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
ThinkVantage System Update will start automatically after installation is complete.
Silent installation of System Update
System Update can be installed in an unattended (silent) mode, which enables you to launch the installation using the default settings. If you want to install System Update in an unattended mode, follow the steps listed below:
Open a command prompt (DOS) session.
Using DOS commands go to the folder where you saved the file you downloaded from the System Update download page.
Launch the silent installation by adding the following parameters to the downloaded filename -s -a /s /v"/qn". For example, systemupdate316-2013-04-15.exe -s -a /s /v"/qn" Then, press Enter.
Wait for the installation to finish.
Close the command prompt session.
Considerations
System Update can be installed on Windows 2003. However, the Lenovo Support Center does not support Windows 2003. Therefore, when a user tries to search updates from the Lenovo Support Center, System Update will return nothing but an error number 42, which means the Lenovo Support Center Center does not support the operating system.
