Win7 / Vista / XP Crash: System may hang, blue screen or unexpected restart with Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver - ThinkPad, ThinkCentre
Symptom

The user may see any of the following symptom:

  • System Hang with an Error Message
  • Blue Screen, Windows may stop responding with an error message
  • The system may auto restart just after an error message

Affected configurations

Any of the following system running Windows 7, Vista or XP 32-bit:

  • ThinkPad SL series
  • ThinkPad X series
  • ThinkPad T series
  • ThinkPad R series
  • ThinkCentre M58, M58p


Solution

This problem is caused by Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver (iaStor.sys) version 8.6.0.1007.

For ThinkPad T/X/R series running Windows 7, Vista or XP 32-bit, Update Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver to version 8.9.2.1002 or later.

For ThinkPad SL series running Windows Vista 32-bit, Update Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver to version 8.8.0.1009 or later.

For ThinkPad SL series running Windows XP 32-bit, Update Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver to version 8.8.0.1009 or later.

For ThinkCentre M58, M58p running Windows Vista or XP 32-bit, Update Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver to version 8.9.0.1023 or later.
