Missing a page of WIFI wireless connection during Windows Welcome (OOBE) - ThinkCentre Edge 72z, Edge 92z

Symptom

When going through Windows Welcome (OOBE) for Microsoft Windows 7, the "Join Wireless Network" wizard screen may not be seen to join Windows to an existing wireless network.

Affected configurations

The above symptom may occur on the following systems:

  • ThinkCentre Edge 72z
  • ThinkCentre Edge 92z

Applies To:

  • Microsoft Windows 7

The system is configured with WLAN card

Additional Information:

The "Join Wireless Network" wizard may not appear during OOBE if either of the following conditions exists:

  • The Microsoft Windows WLAN AutoConfig service (WLANSVC) has not finished loading.
  • When queried by Windows, the wireless adapter does not finish scanning for available wireless networks in approximately five seconds.

Limitation

This is a limitation by Microsoft.  A Lenovo limitation has also been submitted and is under a review and approval process.

Workaround

Once the setup has completed and has finished booting to the Windows desktop, the end user can then connect to an available wireless network by clicking on the network icon in the Notification area of the Windows Taskbar.
