Setting the default carrier firmware when installing GOBI 2000 driver - ThinkPad

Symptom

By default, the GOBI 2000 driver installs the Verizon carrier firmware.

Affected configurations

Any of the following ThinkPad systems:

  • Edge 13, Edge 14, Edge 15
  • Edge E30, Edge E40, Edge E50
  • L412, L512
  • T410, T410i, T410s, T410si, T510, T510i
  • W510
  • X100e
  • X201, X201i, X201s, X201 Tablet
  • ThinkPad X201, X201s, X201 Tablet

Solution

The \WWANQL\Driver\SETUP.EXE for the GOBI 2000 driver allows setting the firmware when the driver is installed by using the option DEFAULTIMAGE=<directory number>.

The directories numbers are:

  1. Vodafone Image
  2. Verizon Image
  3. AT&T Image
  4. Sprint Image
  5. T-Mobile Image
  6. Generic UMTS Image
  7. Telefonica Image
  8. Telecom Italia Image
  9. Orange Image
  10. DoCoMo Image

So to install the driver with the default UMTS firmware would be:

C:\drivers\WWANQL\Driver\SETUP.EXE DEFAULTIMAGE=6
