Troubleshooting mouse, TrackPoint, or UltraNav issues - ThinkPad

Some of these steps may not apply to your computer. Test the pointing device or mouse after performing each step.

  1. Verify that an external mouse is connected properly to the USB PORT
    1. Notes:
A USB port and an operating system with USB support is required to attach a USB interface external mouse to a ThinkPad system.
  2. Verify that the external mouse is working properly.
    1. Connect the external mouse to another computer and test its functionality.
    2. Cleaning your mouse may help improve pointer movement with some mice that have a ball that tracks movement.
    3. Replacing the batteries in your mouse may help improve pointer movement with some mice that are wireless.
    4. Inspect the USB cable for cuts or twists.  Either can lead to a non-functioning mouse
