Rescue and Recovery® 4.1 by Lenovo

Consider the following before installing this code:
  • Rescue and Recovery 4.1 can only upgrade versions 3.1 or 4.0. Rescue and Recovery 4.1 is only compatible with Client Security Solution 8.0 or later.

    Installing on a computer with Rescue and Recovery 3.1
    This upgrade will remove the following functions: Rescue and Recovery workspace authentication, the ability to recover forgotten passwords, and the ability to encrypt backups with Client Security Solution. These features will not be available after the upgrade process is complete. Any backups encrypted using Client Security Solution will be inaccessible.

    Installing on a computer with Rescue and Recovery 3.0
    Before you upgrade to Rescue and Recovery 4.1, you must first complete the following steps:
    1. Copy or move all files from your PrivateDisk volumes, if necessary, or you will lose access to your data.
    2. Create bootable recovery media using the ThinkVantage Create Recovery Media utility. This enables you to use the backups created using your current version of Rescue and Recovery.
    3. Copy or move any Rescue and Recovery backups to an external location. Uninstalling Rescue and Recovery - Client Security Solution deletes all backups on your computer.

      IMPORTANT: Uninstalling the current version will delete all Client Security Solution data and settings.
    4. Uninstall the version of Rescue and Recovery - Client Security Solution currently installed on your computer using the Windows Control Panel.
  • Rescue and Recovery 4.1 is only compatible with Client Security Solution 8.0 or later.

    Installing on a computer with Client Security Solution 7.0
    The following steps must be taken before upgrading Client Security Solution 7.0 to Client Security Solution 8.0:
    1. Download and run the Client Security Solution 8.0 Upgrade Assistant from the Lenovo Web site. This utility preserves your current data and settings for use with Client Security Solution 8.0.
    2. Copy or move all files from your PrivateDisk volumes or you will lose access to your data. Client Security Solution 8.0 does not support PrivateDisk.
    3. Uninstall Client Security Solution 7.0 using the Windows Control Panel.


    Installing on a computer with Client Security Solution 6.0
    The following steps must be taken before upgrading Client Security Solution 6.0 to Client Security Solution 8.0:

    1. Copy or move all files from your PrivateDisk volumes or you will lose access to your data. Client Security Solution 8.0 does not support PrivateDisk.
    2. Uninstall Client Security Solution 6.0 using the Windows Control Panel.
  • Before installing Rescue and Recovery on computers running the 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows Vista, you must download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package (x64).

Rescue and Recovery 4.1 is a suite of self-recovery tools designed to help you diagnose, get help, and recover your system. See supported systems list below.

Consider the following when using this code:
  • Rescue and Recovery 4.1 is not integrated with ThinkVantage Productivity Center 1.0. ThinkVantage Productivity Center users should update to ThinkVantage Productivity Center 2.0 or later for the best user experience.
  • Rescue and Recovery 4.1 is not compatible with Sophos SafeGuard Easy.
  • If you want to retain the ability to restore from backups created with a previous version of Rescue and Recovery, you must create a copy of your backup files on bootable, external recovery media before installing the latest version.
    • To archive your backups, complete the following procedure:
      1. From the Rescue and Recovery main screen, click Backup, then select Copy backups from hard drive from the drop-down list.
      2. Select the medium you want to save your backup files to by clicking the appropriate radio button. The backup files that will be copied are listed on the user interface.
      3. Click OK to continue.
    • You will need blank removable media when copying backups from the hard drive to CD or DVD. Make sure that you label each disc as it is created, and that you store them together in a safe place.
      Note: You will be prompted to make the external media bootable at the beginning of the process.
